Who Was Aristotle?

     Aristotle was a Greek philosopher during the classical period in ancient Greece, founder of the Peripatetic school and the Lyceum, in addition to being a student of Plato and professor of Alexander the Great. His writings cover several subjects such as: physics, metaphysics, the laws of poetry and drama, music, logic, rhetoric, government, ethics, biology, linguistics, economics and zoology. Together with Plato and Socrates (professor of Plato), Aristotle is seen as one of the founders of Western philosophy. In 343 B.C. he became tutor to Alexander of Macedonia, then thirteen years old, who will be the most celebrated conqueror in the ancient world. 

     In 335 BC Alexander took the throne and Aristotle returned to Athens where he founded the Lyceum. All aspects of Aristotle's philosophy continue to be the subject of academic studies. Although Aristotle wrote many treaties and dialogues formatted for publication, only about a third of his original production survived, none of which was intended for publication. Aristotle was portrayed by great artists, like Rafael Sanzio and Rembrandt.
