Batman is a fictional character, a superhero from the American comic book published by DC Comics. It was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane, and first appeared in Detective Comics # 27 (May 1939). Originally named "the Bat-Man", the character is also known by several epithets such as "The Cape Crusader" (The Caped Crusader), "The Dark Knight" (The Dark Knight), and "The Greatest Detective in the World "(The World's Greatest Detective).
Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American billionaire, playboy, business tycoon, philanthropist and owner of the Wayne Enterprises corporation. After witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, Wayne vowed revenge on criminals, an oath moderated by a sense of justice. Wayne then trains himself, both physically and intellectually, and creates a bat-inspired persona to fight crime: Batman.
