Death Note is a manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The manga's chapters were serialized in the Japanese weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2003 to 2006, with the chapters compiled into a total of 12 tankōbon volumes and released by publisher Shueisha. In Brazil, the manga series was licensed and published in two versions by JBC, which also released the two light novels in the series. In Portugal, the manga was licensed by Viz Media Europe and published by Editora Devir.
The story centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook called the Death Note, in which he can kill people if names are written on it while the wielder mentally visualizes the face of someone he wants to murder. From there, Light tries to eliminate all criminals and create a world where there is no evil, but his plans are thwarted by L, a famous private detective.
