Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The series chronicles the adventures of a young man named Harry James Potter, who discovers at the age of 11 that he is a wizard when invited to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The main story arc concerns Harry's friendships with other wizards his age, such as Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and also with Hogwarts director Albus Dumbledore, considered the greatest magician, and his conflicts with the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who intends to become immortal, conquer the wizarding world, subdue non-magical people and destroy all those who stand in his way, especially Harry Potter, whom he considers his greatest rival. Since the release of the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, on June 26, 1997, the books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and have been a commercial success worldwide.
