Who Was Robin Williams?

     Robin McLaurin Williams (Chicago, July 21, 1951 - Paradise Cay, August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian. After gaining fame by playing the alien Mork on the television series Mork & Mindy, and for his later work with stand-up comedy, Williams was featured in several films from the 1980s onwards. He won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his performance in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting, and also won two Primetime Emmy Awards, six Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild awards and five Grammys. Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother Laura Smith (1922-2001) was a former 

     New Orleans model, Louisiana. His father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams (1906-1987), was a senior executive at the automotive company Ford, in charge of the Midwest region. Williams is a descendant of the English, Welsh, and Irish on his father's side, and French on his mother's side.
