Black Widow is a future 2021 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, being the twenty-fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Directed by Cate Shortland, with a screenplay by Eric Pearson written from a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson and produced by Kevin Feige, the film features Scarlett Johansson playing the title character, with the additions of David Harbor, Rachel Weisz , Florence Pugh, OT Fagbenle, Ray Winstone and Oliver Richters.
Scarlett Johansson was cast in the role of the character in several UCM films, starting with Iron Man 2 (2010). Marvel and Johansson expressed interest in a potential solo film several times over the next few years, before development progressed with the hiring of Schaeffer and Shortland in 2018.
